How to increase the tightness of the garage door?
Back to guideHeating a garage requires not only installing a source of energy, but also ensuring adequate thermal insulation of the interior. In this case, the key task is the garage door, which, by design, should ensure that the garage is airtight and thus prevent heat escape. In addition, proper protection of the door increases its acoustic resistance. This is especially important for people who spend time in the garage on a daily basis, not only when leaving and entering the room with the car. How to increase the tightness of the garage door?
Installation of seals in garage doors
The simplest form of gate sealing is the use of gaskets. Gaskets can be dedicated to specific gates, or universal. Universal gaskets bought, for example, at a home improvement store can solve the problem of tightness, but usually the results are short-term. Nevertheless, the installation of gaskets around the gate leaves will prevent unwanted air exchange and the entry of water into the room.
Garage door – insulation on the surface of the panel
Another way to seal the door is to install a thermal insulation layer over the entire surface of the garage door. This step will work only if the tightness of the door at its side edges is sufficient. The thermal insulation layer can be made of foam or mat on the outside of the door. This is, of course, not very aesthetically pleasing, so the idea is rather classified as makeshift and temporary.
Repair of damage that reduces the tightness of the garage door
The tightness of a garage door can be strained by various types of damage. These can include cracks and bulges that compromise the door’s structure and make it more susceptible to air leakage. Locks, hinges and even the threshold can also be affected.
Garage door replacement
The best investment when wishing to increase the thermal insulation of the garage will be to replace the entire garage door. Of particular interest are models dedicated to energy-efficient garages. The bestseller in our catalog is a sectional door focused on the thermal insulation of the room, namely Termo 60mm. The gate has double sealing of the panel at the top and bottom. The panel is composed of hot-dip galvanized steel sheets and then painted. This compilation fits perfectly into the standards of energy-efficient garages. Polyurethane foam filling is an additional strengthening of thermal insulation – the material perfectly protects against cold and noise
